Leisure Assistance Volunteer Program

The Leisure Assistance Volunteer Program provides opportunities for all persons with a disability to become involved in community leisure activities and programs. This service involves matching a person with a disability with a volunteer who has similar recreation and leisure interests.

The main role of the Leisure Assistant (volunteer) is to provide motivation, encouragement and assistance (whether that be physical, mental or emotional) to the participant with the disability. As a representative from RIV, our Leisure Assistants must be motivated, reliable, responsible and enthusiastic individuals, wanting to make a difference in the life of someone else. We are looking for individuals with integrity and enthusiasm who will respect the participant they are supporting.

Some of the activities that you may be involved in are: swimming, running, rock-climbing, dancing, golfing, arts and crafts, working out at the gym, or just hanging out and playing board games! The opportunities are endless!
